This garment factory in Jhajhar, Gazipur, was set up in 2012. Driven by social responsibility and the need for an environment-friendly workplace, it built a rooftop farm in 2015. The main entrepreneur is M A Majed, and his nephew Raziul Hasan looks after it. He said the rooftop farming programme on television played a part, and the fruits and crops seen on rooftop farms across the country are practised here.

The 13,000-square-foot environment-friendly roof is now a farm full of fruit and crops. Large wood apples, pummelos, dragon fruit, many kinds of lemons and local and foreign fruits catch the eye.

Each tree is planted in a large drum filled with enough soil and nutritious organic material on a planned structure, and the trees are clearly well fed.

Several thousand workers work inside the factory, and green spaces are needed to keep such a labour-intensive environment pleasant.
