Kiron Hossain, 11, a Class Five pupil, has died from a snakebite. A snake bit him as he slept at home on Wednesday night.

Kiron was the son of farmer Rohidul Islam of Kazipur Border Para, on the border in Gangni upazila of Meherpur, and a Class Five pupil at the local Kazipur Adarsha Government Primary School.

According to his family, Kiron was asleep at home when a snakebite woke him at about 9.30pm. He told his parents, but they could not see a snake and let it pass, telling their son to go back to sleep in the hope that nothing would happen. At about 11.30pm his condition worsened. When he became seriously ill he was taken that night to Gangni upazila health complex, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.

Abdul Al Maruf, resident medical officer (RMO) of Gangni upazila health complex, confirmed the death.
