A five-year-old boy, Tanvir Ahmed, has died after being bitten by a snake while asleep in Gangni, Meherpur. He was taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at around 4am on 17 August, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Tanvir was the son of Rashidul Islam of Anandabas village under Gangni police station in Meherpur district.

According to the family, Tanvir suddenly fell ill at around 3am on Sunday night. The snake had bitten him in his sleep, but family members did not realise it at first. When the child's condition worsened, he was rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

His father, Rashidul Islam, said: "We did not understand that a snake had bitten him in his sleep. When he fell ill, we quickly brought him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. After tests, the doctor declared him dead."

Dr Golam Morshed, the doctor on duty in the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said the child had died before reaching the hospital. "We found him dead," he said.
