A woman named Josna Begum, 50, has died of a snakebite in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.

The incident took place at around 11am on Thursday, 27 March, in Basutia village of No 8 Gafargaon union of the upazila. Josna Begum was the wife of Main Uddin of the village.

Abdur Rahim Sarkar, inspector (investigation) of Gafargaon police station, confirmed the death to Jagonews.

Citing Josna Begum's family, he said that at around 10am she put her hand into a pot kept on a raised platform to take rice bran for cooking cattle feed. A snake in the pot bit her, but at first she did not realise she had been bitten. After a while, as her body began to go limp, she saw the snakebite mark. Family members took her to the upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead at around 11am.
