A 14-month-old child named Ariyan has died of a snakebite in the Pagla police station area of Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Tuesday, 22 August, in Pachahar village of Tangab union. Ariyan was the son of Habibur Rahman of the village.

Sanjida Sultana, the doctor on duty at Gafargaon upazila health complex, confirmed the matter to Jago News. She said the child was brought to hospital at around 10:30pm on Tuesday but had died before arriving. The child's family claimed he had died from a snakebite, she said.

According to local sources, Ariyan was sitting on the floor of the house playing at around 9pm when a venomous snake bit him. When he lost consciousness, the family noticed and took him to Gafargaon upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pagla police station, said he had not received any report of a child dying from a snakebite, but that the matter would be looked into.
