A housewife named Sharmin Akter Bakul, 42, has died after being bitten by a snake in Gafargaon, Mymensingh. She died on the morning of Saturday 9 September on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

She had been bitten after dusk on Friday in Mukhi village of Moshakhali union in the upazila.

Sharmin Akter Bakul was the wife of Md Mozammel Haque, a senior teacher at Mukhi Palli Sebak High School in the area.

Mostafa Kamal Khan Moni, chairman of Moshakhali union parishad, confirmed the details to Jago News.

He said that after dusk on Friday, as Sharmin Akter stepped onto the veranda from her house, a venomous snake bit her. Her relatives first took her to a faith healer for incantations. When that did not work, they took her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at around 10pm. After treatment there she recovered somewhat and returned home the same night. The next morning her condition worsened, and she died on the way back to the hospital.
