The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent 400kg of mangoes, a seasonal fruit, for the officials and staff of the Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata, India.

The mangoes entered India's Petrapole port through the cargo vehicle terminal of Benapole land port at around midday on Wednesday, 9 July.

Port sources said that in the past, a dozen or so officials from both countries used to be present when mangoes or hilsa were sent to India as gifts. This time was an exception: no officials from either country were seen at the handover.

Md Aziz Khan, revenue officer of the cargo branch of Benapole checkpost customs, confirmed the consignment.

He said 400kg of mangoes, in 81 cartons, had been sent to India from the foreign ministry in the name of the Bangladesh deputy high commission in Kolkata. A C&F agent named Robi International sent the mangoes to India through a bill of entry.

Earlier, a Bangladeshi truck driver named Md Moktar brought the mangoes to the land port's cargo vehicle terminal on truck number Dhaka Metro-Na-20-2790. After completing the formalities there, he set off for Petrapole.
