Its length matches the height of a fully grown giraffe. A Burmese python of that size has been caught in Florida in the United States. It was captured recently by a 22-year-old man named Jake Waleri. The python is 19 feet long and weighs 56.6kg. It is thought to be the world's longest Burmese python.

After catching the python, Jake took it to a sanctuary in south-west Florida, where it was measured and weighed. In October 2020 another Burmese python was found in Florida measuring 18 feet 9 inches. Until now that was the longest Burmese python in the world.

A video of the capture has been posted on social media. It shows Jake pulling the Burmese python by the tail at the side of a road. The huge animal immediately comes at him and tries to coil around him and grip him. Several other people then come forward to help Jake.

Jake said the snake has been sent to the Florida sanctuary for scientific research. He said this Burmese python will also have an impact on the environment of south Florida.

According to National Geographic, the Burmese python is one of the longest snakes in the world. It hunts in an unusual way: it first seizes its prey with its sharp teeth, then wraps its body around it and squeezes until the prey stops breathing. It eats mammals, birds and gharials.
