The government has decided to give financial help to families who lost livestock in the floods. Compensation of Tk 25,000 will be paid for each cow that died in the floodwater, and Tk 10,000 for each goat or sheep.

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu made the announcement at a flood review meeting at Chattogram Circuit House on the night of Tuesday, 14 July.

The minister said the floods had badly damaged not only people's homes but also agriculture and livestock. The government is taking the necessary steps to stand by affected farmers and ordinary people, and relief work will begin quickly once an accurate list of the damage is prepared.

He instructed the Department of Livestock Services to send full information on livestock killed in the floods to the ministry quickly.

According to the department's Chattogram office, 39 cows, 95 goats, 42 sheep, 1,42,137 chickens and 1,300 ducks died in the district in these floods.

Livestock farms, poultry farms and fish enclosures in various parts of the district were damaged, putting many families at risk of losing their livelihoods.

Senior district administration officials, public representatives and officials of the departments concerned attended the meeting.
