The government has decided to import 110,000 tonnes of urea, DAP and TSP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia and Morocco at a total cost of Tk 902,73,91,990. This includes 40,000 tonnes of urea from Saudi Arabia, and 40,000 tonnes of DAP and 30,000 tonnes of TSP from Morocco.

The imports were approved at a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Secretariat on Wednesday, 12 August.

The committee approved importing the first lot of 40,000 tonnes (10 per cent more or less) of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Proposed by the Ministry of Industries, the purchase will cost Tk 209,06,39,860, at USD 421.67 a tonne.

It also approved importing a third lot of 40,000 tonnes (10 per cent more or less) of DAP under a G2G agreement between OCP Nutricrops of Morocco and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). Proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture, it will cost Tk 441,91,16,520, at USD 891.67 a tonne.

Under the same G2G agreement, a fourth lot of 30,000 tonnes (10 per cent more or less) of TSP will be imported from OCP Nutricrops. The Ministry of Agriculture's proposal puts the cost at Tk 251,76,35,610, at USD 677.33 a tonne.
