For the second time in a week, police in Feni have arrested two people with three langurs of an endangered species.

The langurs were rescued from the Lalpul area of Feni on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at around 10pm on Saturday 14 October.

Police said that, acting on a tip-off, they searched a private car travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka and found three black-faced langurs. Md Sujan Uddin, 24, and Md Shakil were detained for keeping the endangered langurs in their possession, without a licence or permit, to sell and traffic them. Sujan is the son of the late Mohammad Kamal Uddin of Baktarmunshi village in Sonagazi, and Shakil is the son of Shamsul Alam of Belia village in Chatkhil upazila, Noakhali.

On Sunday morning, 15 October, Thoai Aung Pru Marma, additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) in Feni, handed the langurs over to officials of the wildlife conservation department.

Babul Chandra Bhowmik, Feni Sadar range officer of the social forestry department, told Jagonews that the langurs would be sent to the Dulahazara Safari Park in Cox's Bazar through the wildlife conservation department in Chattogram.

Mahfuzur Rahman, inspector (investigation) at Feni Model police station, told Jagonews that a case had been filed against the two under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012.

On the night of 7 October, two black-faced langurs and 16 turtles were recovered after a vehicle of GS Travel was searched at Lalpul on the same highway. Ahaduzzaman Raju, 42, was arrested then for keeping the endangered langurs and turtles, without a licence or permit, to traffic them.
