The Forest Department and the animal welfare group Feni Wildlife Rescue Team have rescued a Himalayan griffon vulture, an endangered species, in Sonagazi, Feni.
The Feni Wildlife Rescue Team said it received word that local people had caught an injured Himalayan griffon vulture at Engineer Para in Char Khondokar, Sonagazi.
Handed over for treatment
On the afternoon of Sunday, 15 January, Saimun Farabi, director and rescuer of the Feni Wildlife Rescue Team, immediately informed Inspector Abdullah Al Sadi of the Wildlife Crime Control Unit and discussed the matter with Feni Forest Department forester Babul Chandra Bhowmik. He then went to the spot with officials of the Sonagazi upazila forest office and rescued the vulture.
The Feni social forestry division handed the vulture over to the care of the Feni Wildlife Rescue Team for first aid.
Saimun Farabi said that once it recovers, the bird will be released into the wild or handed over to Bangabandhu Safari Park, as directed by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit.
