The people of Feni had never seen such a flood. Many have still not returned home, and those who have face new hardships. Yards are full of wet mattresses, quilts, pillows and furniture being dried. The sudden deep water has receded, but its wet marks remain everywhere, along with memories of terrible days.

Some have no tears left; grief has hardened in their chests. In homes, markets and shops, people lament. What they had is gone, ruined by floodwater.

As the water recedes, deep wounds are visible on farmland. Floodwater has consumed everything farmers had; everything has rotted, and there is a stench all around, mixed with memories of green crops.

Footage recorded earlier shows Jannat Agro, a promising farm in Dharmapur village, Feni Sadar upazila. Twenty days earlier it was rich with fruit and crops; the sudden flood of 21 August submerged it and destroyed everything. Seeking success in farming, three friends had invested 10 million taka in integrated fruit and crop production on 10 acres. The trees had been full of fruit. Having lost everything, they are now ruined.
