The Feni unit of the Bangladesh Photo Journalist Association (BPJA) has launched a tree planting programme to mark National Mourning Day.

The programme was inaugurated on the morning of Tuesday 29 August on the premises of the Feni Sadar upazila parishad. Feni Sadar upazila parishad chairman Susen Chandra Shil was the chief guest.

The special guests were Feni Sadar upazila parishad vice-chairmen A.K Shahid Ullah Khandaker and Josna Ara Jusi; Abu Taher, staff reporter of the daily Prothom Alo; Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, editor of the daily Fenir Somoy; Muhammad Abu Taher Bhuiyan, Feni correspondent of the Daily Observer; Jafar Uddin, vice-chairman of Star Line Group; Babul Chandra Bhowmik, Feni Sadar upazila forest officer; and Md Mojibul Haque Ripon, chairman of Fazilpur union parishad.

The event was presided over by M. Emran Patwari, president of the Feni district unit of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association, and moderated by general secretary Sheikh Ashikunnabi Sajib.

Others present included Feni Sadar upazila youth development officer Md Helaluddin; Abul Hashem, general secretary of the Feni Sadar upazila sports association; Sourav Patwari, executive editor of the daily Probhat Alo; and, from the association's Feni district unit, vice-president Suranjit Nag, organising secretary Mirajul Islam Mamun, office secretary Aftar Uddin, treasurer Molla Md Ilias, executive members Mostafa Kamal Bulbul, Abdullah Al-Mamun and Julhas Talukder, and members Ziaul Haque Sohel, Md Shahjahan Badsha Saju, Nurullah Kayser and Arif Azam, along with journalists working in Feni.

The guests inaugurated the programme by planting saplings on the Feni Sadar upazila parishad premises. Saplings of fruit, timber and medicinal trees were handed to the organisation's members at the event.
