The Forest Department has rescued four parrots, eight munias and four mynas that were being sold on the bank of Rajajhir Dighi in Feni town.

The birds were released on the campus of the Feni Social Forestry Department at noon on Wednesday, 15 November.

The Feni Social Forestry Department said the caged birds were rescued in a drive at Rajajhir Dighi that morning and later released on its campus. The seller, Md Kamrul Sheikh of Faridpur, was let go after giving a written undertaking.

The bird seller, Md Kamrul Sheikh, said he had been selling birds at various places in Feni for the past three days.

Present at the release were divisional forest officer Ruhul Amin; Babul Chandra Bhowmik, range officer of the Social Forestry Department, Feni Sadar; Walid Bin Abdullah, secretary of the Feni Wildlife Rescue Team; Nazrul Islam, Feni district representative of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team in Bangladesh; and Shafi Ullah, a member of the Feni Wildlife Rescue Team.

Feni Sadar range officer Babul Chandra Bhowmik said the seller was released on a written undertaking after the birds were freed.
