A farmer named Rafiq Khandakar, 50, has died after being bitten by a snake while working on his land in Sadarpur, Faridpur.

He died while being treated at Faridpur's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital at around midnight on Tuesday, 22 August. Rafiq Khandakar was the son of Manik Khandakar of Amirabad village in the upazila's Bhashanchar union.

According to local and family sources, Rafiq Khandakar was bitten by a snake while working on his land at around 3pm on Tuesday. Local people rescued him and tried to have the venom drawn out by an ojha (traditional healer) in Kalibari village of the upazila. When the ojha failed, relatives admitted him to Faridpur's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital, where he died under treatment at around midnight.

Sheikh Golam Kausar, chairman of Bhashanchar union parishad, confirmed the matter to Jago News. He said Rafiq Khandakar died while being treated in hospital after the snakebite, and that the body would be buried once his son returns to the country.
