Ripon Shikder, 35, a young man from Sadarpur in Faridpur, went to hospital for treatment carrying the live cobra that had bitten him, causing a great stir in the area.

The report gives the time of the incident as about 1pm on Thursday (30 April). Ripon Shikder lives in Amirabad village in Bhashanchar union of the upazila and is a shopkeeper by profession.

According to local sources, at about 1.30pm, as he put his hand into a jar in his own shop, a venomous cobra hiding inside bit him, leaving him seriously injured.

Hospital sources said Ripon was quickly given antivenom and is now under close observation by doctors.

Ripon Shikder said that after the bite the snake was caught with the help of people nearby, and then, with the help of local people, he came to the upazila health complex with the snake for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Dr Eftekhar, the doctor on duty at the Sadarpur upazila health complex, said that because he was brought to hospital in time his condition is now stable, but he will be kept under observation for the next few hours.
