Treatment and round-the-clock monitoring have been arranged for the wild elephant injured by a train on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar railway line.

The measures for the elephant's safety and treatment were taken on the special instruction of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The ministry gave the information in a press release on Monday night (14 October).

The safari park medical team formed by the environment ministry is led by Professor Dr Bibek Chandra Sutradhar of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. On his advice, the safari park's veterinary officer, his assistant and two mahouts are continuing to treat the injured elephant.

All preparations, including a crane, have been made to move the elephant to the safari park. However, a crane or any other vehicle cannot reach it because there is deep water over about 200 metres near the elephant and the ground is soft from continuous rain.

Bangladesh Railway has been asked for help, and the railway authorities have promised assistance with a relief train.
