The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area will be completely cleaned within eight hours of the end of animal sacrifices, administrator Abdus Salam has said.

He said this on the morning of Wednesday 20 May while inaugurating beautification and landscaping work at the Sabji Bagan secondary transfer station (STS) in Ward 19 on Old Elephant Road in the capital.

Answering a question on removing waste from the markets and sacrifices, Abdus Salam said strict instructions had been given to the lessees, and the DSCC also had its own full preparations. Cleaning will begin from the night before Eid and on Eid day. "Inshallah, the Dhaka South City Corporation area will be completely cleaned within eight hours of the end of the sacrifice," he said.

The administrator said tenders had been invited for 11 cattle markets in the DSCC area for the coming Eid-ul-Azha, and overall security and facilities for buyers, sellers and city residents had been ensured. Each market will have a control room and a medical team of doctors for emergency treatment of animals and people, and special police patrols will be deployed to maintain law and order.
