Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has blacklisted the contractor M/s S M Rahman International for cutting trees while building a road divider at Mirpur's Technical crossing in the capital. Two sub-assistant engineers in charge of the work have also been temporarily suspended for negligence of duty and disobeying the authority's orders.

Three separate office orders signed by DNCC secretary Mohammad Mamun-ul-Hasan were issued on the afternoon of Thursday, 1 June, and the information comes from these orders.

The order declares M/s S M Rahman International ineligible to take part in any DNCC tendering process for one year for breaching the terms of the work by cutting trees without permission. It was also decided to cancel the firm's work order for the job.

For negligence of duty and disobeying the authority's orders in this work, sub-assistant engineers Md Suja Uddin Mamun and Md Suruzzaman of DNCC's traffic engineering circle have been temporarily suspended.

Work is under way on a new footbridge at Mirpur's Technical crossing under a project on developing traffic infrastructure and road safety in the DNCC area. As part of that work, road dividers are being built on three sides of the Technical intersection.
