The home of Mosiur Rahman and Nazmun Nahar in Rampur village of Bochaganj, Dinajpur, is overflowing with joy. Their twin daughters, Mst Musfika Nasnin and Mst Makhnun Akhtar, have at a stroke eased the couple's worries about the future of their three daughters. Coming from a remote village, both have won places at medical colleges at the same time. Not only the family but the whole area is celebrating the sisters' success.
According to the family, Musfika has won a place at Mymensingh Medical College and Makhnun at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. The twins finished primary school in the village and then went to Setabganj Government Model Pilot High School. After passing the SSC with distinction there, they joined their elder sister at Dinajpur Government College, where regular study and hard work saw them pass the HSC.
A family of three daughters
According to local sources, Md Mosiur Rahman, an office assistant at Muraripur High School, and housewife Nazmun Nahar have three daughters. The eldest is studying for an honours degree at Dinajpur Government College, and the younger twins have now won medical college places.
Local resident Hasmat Ali said: "We are very happy that two sisters from our village have won medical college places together. We pray that they grow up to work for the welfare of poor and helpless people."
Their mother, Nazmun Nahar, said: "I never worried about my three daughters; I kept their studies going somehow. Today my twin daughters have won places at medical college. Please pray for them."
Their father, Mosiur Rahman, said: "Since they were small I worried a lot about the three sisters: what would their future be, what would they do when they grew up? But now that two of the three have the chance to study medicine, my worries have eased a lot. I ask the people of the country to pray for them."
The medical college admission test was held simultaneously across the country last Friday. In the results, Mst Musfika Nasnin won a place at Mymensingh Medical College with a position of 1231, and Mst Makhnun Akhtar at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College with a position of 660.
