The variety is called "Char Kg" (four kilo), and it weighs four kilograms too. Such a mango has turned up at a fruit fair in Dinajpur, and fruit lovers are crowding round to see the giant fruit.

The fair began on 18 June at Khamarbari in Dinajpur and runs until the evening of Saturday (21 June). It is organised by the district office of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

On display are mango varieties including Brunei King, Chiang Mai, E2R2, Simuang, Tin Kg (three kilo), Ushaponi, Dokmai, Kiujai, Lady Jen, King of Chakapat, Glenn, Amlika, Taiwan Red, Miyazaki, Honeydew, Three Taste, Red Palmer, Austin, Chiang Mai 1 and Red Ivory, along with jackfruit, lychee and various local and foreign fruits.

What has caught visitors' attention, though, is the Char Kg mango, one of several varieties grown on the grounds of the Dinajpur Superintendent of Police's office. Seeing a small tag reading "4 kg" beside the mango at the stall, anyone would assume that is its weight, and they would not be wrong: the mango really does weigh four kilograms, and the variety is also named "4 kg".

DAE additional deputy director (crops) Anisuzzaman said fruit of the Char Kg variety usually weighs four kilograms, which is why it was given that name.

Visitor Sweet Begum said: "I have seen many varieties of mango, but I had never seen a single mango weighing four kilograms. And I was surprised that its name is also Four Kilo."
