A venomous keute snake (described as a king cobra/cobra species) caught at a home in the Uposhohor area of Dinajpur town has been released in the Dharmapur sal forest of Birol upazila.

The snake was released in the Dharmapur sal forest at 5pm on Saturday 25 November by the upazila's beat officer Mohsin Ali and range officer Mannan Hossain.

Before that, they collected the snake from the home of teacher Rashidul Hasan Kochi at the Diabetic Hospital crossing in Block 10 of Uposhohor.

Birol beat officer Mohsin Ali said: "We saw the news on Jago News and went to teacher Rashidul Hasan Kochi's home at noon. We found the snake trapped in a jar. It is a venomous cobra, a species that is nearly extinct in our country. The snake is 12 to 14 inches long. It can grow to 10 to 12 feet. Locally it is called the darais snake. We then took the snake to the Dharmapur sal forest in Birol upazila and released it."

Earlier, at around 9.30am on Friday 24 November, teacher Rashidul Hasan Kochi spotted the snake while cleaning his home at the Diabetic Hospital crossing in Block 10 of Uposhohor and caught it.
