An elderly woman named Bhaduri Bewa, 60, has died of a snakebite in Bochaganj, Dinajpur. The incident happened around 12 noon on Monday, 24 June, in Shibtoli village of the upazila's Chhatail union. She was the wife of the late Jiten Chandra Roy of the village.

Locals said Bhaduri Bewa had taken her goat to graze in an open field in Deir village at around 11am, when a venomous snake bit her and the venom spread through her body. Locals rescued her and took her to the upazila health complex.

Faiyaz Ijtihad, medical officer at the Bochaganj health complex, said relatives brought the woman to the hospital at around 1:30pm, but she had died before arriving. Marks on her leg showed she had been bitten by a snake.

On hearing the news, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dalim Sarkar visited Bhaduri Bewa's home and gave financial assistance to the family.

Abu Bakkar Siddique Rasel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bochaganj police station, said: "We have confirmed that Bhaduri Bewa died of a snakebite."
