A mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has conducted drives against a makeshift kitchen market in Dhanmondi and footpath encroachers in Khilgaon.

The drives were carried out at 6:30am on Thursday (3 March) against the makeshift market set up on the road in front of Sugandha Community Centre in Dhanmondi (5/A), and in the afternoon against footpath encroachment in Khilgaon.

DSCC executive magistrate Abdus Samad Shikder led the Dhanmondi drive and executive magistrate Afifa Khan the Khilgaon drive. They seized 1,041 kg of fish of about 20 species, including mola, coral, hilsa, shrimp, rui, shol, boal and air, along with 14 hali of chickens and other equipment. The fish and chickens were taken to the Sir Salimullah Orphanage premises in Azimpur and distributed among seven orphanages. Fruit and other seized items were sold at an on-the-spot auction for Tk 25,000.

Drive leader and estate officer Russel Sabrin said: "Every day, from dawn to morning, a makeshift kitchen market is set up in the Dhanmondi 5/A area, obstructing traffic and pedestrians. So we ran a drive there this morning. On the mayor's instructions, drives will continue against such temporary or permanent kitchen markets that occupy roads."
