The three-day "Dhaka University Green Nexus 2026" programme, organised jointly by the Dhaka University Environment Society and the Arboriculture Centre, has ended.

Professor Dr Mohammad Almojaddedi Alfesani, pro-vice-chancellor (administration) of Dhaka University, was chief guest at the closing ceremony held on Thursday, 3 September, in the central gallery of the Department of Botany.

The ceremony was chaired by Professor Dr Mohammad Jashim Uddin, chief adviser to the Environment Society and director of the Arboriculture Centre. Special guests who spoke were Professor Dr Md Abdul Karim, dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences; Professor Dr A H M Zulfiquar Ali, chairman of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment; Professor Dr Asfaq Ahmed, chairman of the Department of Botany; and Professor Dr Md Zakir Hossain Howlader, chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Professor Alfesani stressed planting more native tree species to counter Dhaka's growing pollution. Planting trees alone is not enough, he said; proper care and protection of the trees must also be ensured.

Urging students to play an active part in protecting the environment and keeping the campus clean, he said that with everyone's joint effort the Dhaka University campus could become a green, clean and model campus.

Ten students were given awards at the ceremony for their skills as environmental activists.
