A 2,200 sq ft Green Revolution in a Concrete Jungle

In Boxnagar, Demra, Shah Alam's 2,200 sq ft rooftop grows more than a hundred kinds of fruit, vegetables and ornamentals, with hydroponics and a pigeon loft.

A planned rooftop farm

Across about 2,200 square feet of roof, he has built a planned growing area where more than a hundred kinds of fruit, seasonal vegetables and ornamental plants are cultivated.

Vegetables from the roof meet a large share of the family's needs.

Hydroponics and more

Beyond conventional growing, the roof has hydroponic cultivation, a pigeon loft and a green refuge maintained with regular care, a rare model of sustainable living in one of Dhaka's most congested neighbourhoods.
