Two boys, cousins, have died after going into a pond to bathe in Brahmanpara, Cumilla. The incident happened at about 2pm on Wednesday, 15 July, in Pomkara village of Sidlai union in the upazila.

Brahmanpara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Faruk Hossain confirmed the matter to Jagonews24. The dead are Imran (8), son of Yusuf Mia, and Junaid (8), son of Awal Mia, both of Pomkara village.

Their uncle Sabuj Ahmed said that at midday his son Bayezid went into the pond to bathe with his two cousins, Imran and Junaid, after they had been playing beside the house. At one point Imran and Junaid went under, and Bayezid raised the alarm. Everyone rushed to rescue the two and took them to Brahmanpara Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

OC Md Faruk Hossain said police were aware of the two children drowning. As no one had made any complaint, the bodies were being handed over to the families through the legal process.
