The price of edible oil will not be raised suddenly without scrutiny, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said. The government will take a reasoned decision on the traders' demand after considering the overall situation, he said.
He was answering journalists' questions at the opening of a development project in Sylhet on Wednesday, 30 September. Supply of bottled soybean oil in the market has fallen somewhat, squeezing consumers, and traders have taken the opportunity to propose a price rise again.
"Traders are demanding a rise in the price of edible oil, but the government will decide after understanding and checking the situation," the minister said.
Earlier in the morning he opened river-bank protection work on the right bank of the Surma at Kanishail in Sylhet Sadar, under the project for developing the Surma-Kushiyara river basin and flood and integrated water resources management.
