CNH, the agricultural and construction equipment maker, says it will begin rolling out engine software updates in the fourth quarter of 2026 to align with updated US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidance on the timing of emissions-system fault inducements, the power reductions that force an operator to deal with a fault.

Under the new software, owners and operators will have more time to plan and complete repairs before certain engine derates are triggered, which the company says will reduce downtime during critical working windows. The first releases will go to high-horsepower agricultural equipment, with other product families added through 2027.

Customers with a CNH Electronic Service Tool subscription will be able to install the update themselves; dealers can also install it remotely or on the farm. "Customers have been clear: they need solutions that help them stay productive, especially during seasonally critical windows," said Scott Harris, President North America at CNH.

The company first announced the plan on 16 September; Precision Farming Dealer carried the announcement on 28 September.
