Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin has said the government is working tirelessly to tackle the adverse effects of climate change on human health, animals, livestock and biodiversity.

He was speaking as chief guest on 7 August at a views-exchange meeting at the Department of Environment, held to find solutions to the adverse effects of climate change on health.

The minister said integrated measures must be taken for the health and well-being of animals, because human survival is closely linked to theirs.

He said the government is organising such sessions to learn from leading experts, officials and stakeholders with deep insight into climate change's impact on health. Their knowledge and skills will play an important role in shaping policies and strategies to tackle these challenges effectively, and the ideas and commitments made here will undoubtedly pave the way to a more sustainable future, he said.

Climate change disrupts ecosystems, damages biodiversity and worsens pollution by affecting the quality of air, water and soil, he said. As a result it has far-reaching effects on human health and the health of all living things. The health of our environment directly affects our own health.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar and Saber Hossain Chowdhury, the prime minister's special envoy on climate change and chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, spoke as special guests.
