A woman bitten by a snake in Chuadanga has died before reaching hospital. She had first been taken to an ojha, a traditional healer, for charms, and was taken to hospital only after her condition worsened. The incident happened at about 7pm on Tuesday, 27 August.

The dead woman, Moriam Khatun, 70, was the wife of the late Faraji of Majher Para in Gobargara village, Chuadanga Sadar upazila.

According to sources, Moriam Khatun was bitten by a venomous snake at her home after dusk. Her family took her to a local ojha. When her condition worsened under the ojha's charms, she was taken towards the Sadar hospital but died on the way. Her relatives did not give the ojha's full address.

Dr Abdul Kader, the doctor on duty in the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said she was declared dead after examination and had died before reaching hospital.
