Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 300 grams of snake venom worth about Tk 2 crore from the Mahananda Express during a raid at Darshana Halt station in Chuadanga.

Lt Col Sayeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman, commander of the Chuadanga BGB-6 battalion, confirmed the recovery in a press release on the evening of Thursday, 17 October.

The release said BGB received a tip-off that snake venom would be smuggled on the Mahananda Express through Darshana Halt station at 1pm on Thursday. Havildar Md Muradul Islam of the battalion took up position at the station with a team. A special raid was then carried out on the Mahananda Express, which had left Rajshahi, at Darshana railway station, about 3 km inside Bangladesh from border pillar 75/3-S.

The team found an abandoned plastic bag on the luggage rack of coach No 4. A search of the bag turned up poisonous snake venom in three glass bottles, with an estimated value of about Tk 2 crore.

"Three hundred grams of snake venom has been recovered from the Mahananda Express," Lt Col Sayeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman said.
