Agriculture adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed hope that mango, jackfruit, guava and other seasonal fruit will be exported from Bangladesh to China next season.

On Tuesday, 27 August, a delegation led by China's ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, met the agriculture adviser in his office at the Secretariat.

The adviser said China is Bangladesh's oldest and most trusted friend, and that he was hopeful all co-operation with China would continue.

When the Chinese ambassador raised concerns about the safety of Chinese nationals living in Bangladesh, the adviser assured them of full security. He also asked to be informed of any concerns about the security of offices, installations and materials of projects under way in the country with Chinese funding and technical help.

The adviser said crops had been damaged in more than 40 districts in Bangladesh's severe floods, and he hoped for China's help to overcome this. He also said he expected China to stand by Bangladesh at all times in the current situation.

Also present were additional secretary Dr Md Mahmudur Rahman, joint secretary Mosammat Zohra Khatun, and from the Chinese embassy commercial counsellor Song Yang, head of administration Jian Yi, police liaison officer Zhao Yi and political attache Liang Shuying.
