Chhatra Dal has decided to plant trees from the monsoon season to protect life and nature and to bring relief from intense heat. Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir gave the information at a meeting with journalists on Saturday (27 April).

He said leaders and activists had already been asked to be ready for the planting. "We will also work to care for the trees, not just plant them for photo opportunities," he said.

Nasir said trees planted in this intense, rainless sunshine would not survive, and it would be impossible to keep them alive in the drought even by watering them artificially. New trees did not survive even when the country's summer temperature was 30-32 degrees; now it is over 40 degrees. That is why Chhatra Dal will plant trees across the country in the coming monsoon, he said.

He said Chhatra Dal had also run successful tree-planting programmes in the past on occasions including World Environment Day and the birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman. "This year we will carry out tree planting on an even larger scale," he said.
