A man named Md Kamal, 45, bitten by a venomous cobra in Chatkhil, Noakhali, was admitted to hospital after arriving with the snake itself.
The incident happened at Halima Dighirpar in Chatkhil on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 October. Md Kamal is the son of the late Kala Mia of Kabir Bari in Parkot village of the upazila.
At around 1:30pm he arrived at the upazila health complex carrying the cobra in a sack and was admitted. At the hospital authorities' request, the snake was then released near the bridge by the upazila gate. Kamal is being treated at the hospital.
Bitten while breaking its teeth
Dr Shahidul Ahmed Nayon, residential medical officer (RMO) of Chatkhil upazila health complex, said a man came for treatment carrying a cobra in a sack. Told that keeping the snake with him was unsafe, he released it and was admitted. "We are trying to make him well," he said.
Md Kamal told Jagonews that in the afternoon he had gone to visit a relative's house and heard there was a snake in the house. He caught the snake, along with some eggs, and it bit him while he was breaking its teeth. He then came to hospital with the snake for treatment.
When word spread, hundreds of curious people gathered at the house, and many crowded the hospital to see the patient.
