World Environment Day was observed at Charka Textile in Danga, Narsingdi, with tree planting and other programmes. More than a hundred trees were planted in the open spaces of Charka Textile on Monday (5 June), a joint initiative of the German-based firm Winsheh Bangladesh and Charka Textile.
The World Environment Day programme also included a discussion on environmental protection, at which officials of Winsheh Bangladesh and Charka Textile gave the factory's workers various messages about protecting the environment.
Present were Winsheh Bangladesh country manager Wieke Gerhold, operations manager Cristiano Zizza and other senior officials of its Bangladesh office. Charka Textile was represented by executive director Akter Ahmed Chowdhury and chief operating officer Chaminda Gunaratne.
Charka Textile is an associate company of PRAN Group. It makes various kinds of T-shirts, polo shirts, sando vests and other lingerie products, which are exported to the United States, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia and other countries. Winsheh Bangladesh is one of Charka Textile's main buyers.
