Langra and Ashwina mangoes from Chapainawabganj have received geographical indication (GI) recognition. The two-month verification process is complete, and the certificates are expected in a few days.

Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, chief scientific officer of the Regional Horticulture Research Station in Chapainawabganj, confirmed this to Jagonews24 at 3.30pm on Wednesday (5 July).

"We applied for GI recognition for Chapainawabganj's Langra and Ashwina mangoes in 2017. Following that application, verification went on for the past two months, and that period is now over. We are relieved. We will receive the GI certificates for Langra and Ashwina in a few days. With these, four of Chapainawabganj's mangoes will have GI recognition," he said.

Earlier, both Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts received GI recognition for Khirsapat mangoes in 2019 and for Fazli mangoes in 2022.
