Cauliflower or Cabbage: Which Should You Eat for More Nutrition?

An Indian nutritionist weighs the nutritional value of cauliflower and cabbage and advises eating both, but not more than a cup a day.

Crops

Demand for the seasonal vegetables cauliflower and cabbage has risen as winter sets in. But there is lively debate among many people over which of the two is more nutritious.

One camp says cabbage is the best for nutritional value. The other refuses to accept this, and instead puts cauliflower well ahead of cabbage for its health benefits.

So which is better for your health, cauliflower or cabbage? The noted Indian nutritionist Sharmistha Roy Dutta has explained.

Cabbage

One cup of cabbage provides 22 calories. It also contains plenty of fibre, which plays a special role in everything from controlling diabetes to losing weight.

The vegetable is also a store of vitamin C and some highly beneficial antioxidants, so eating cabbage regularly will considerably boost your immunity.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower, on the other hand, is hard to beat for detoxifying, or cleansing, the body. If you want to reduce inflammation in the body, you should eat this vegetable regularly too.

It is also rich in highly beneficial fibre, which is very effective in controlling diabetes. Keeping it on your plate regularly will also help keep your weight in check.

Eat both, in moderation

Both cauliflower and cabbage are excellent sources of nutrition. According to the expert, if you want to live a healthy life you should eat dishes made from both vegetables from time to time, and you will see the benefit.

But do not overeat them. According to the nutritionist, you should not eat more than one cup of cauliflower or cabbage a day, as this may cause digestive problems.
