For those who treat farming with the utmost sincerity, it proves not only profitable but life-changing. Age is no barrier; willpower matters most. There are countless examples in the country of people who have succeeded by reshaping farming to the needs of the times.

With this in mind, Azharul Islam Talukder of Jasihati village, Basail, Tangail, took up farming after retiring from his job. Back in the village, he did not sit idle but dreamed of changing, new-style agriculture and began growing capsicum, a foreign vegetable.

In the first year he grew capsicum on only 40 decimals and got a good crop, but unfavourable weather meant little profit last time. He did not give up. In his seventies, he works day and night to enjoy farming, adapting to modern technology and learning the information and techniques needed for foreign vegetables.

This time, to keep adverse weather at bay and secure production, he has built a polynet house, and he is very hopeful about growing coloured capsicum in this controlled environment.
