Ibises, lapwings and openbills gather at Bogura's Bhepra beel among aman fields

As the water drops in the roughly 50-bigha Bhepra beel, ringed by aman rice fields, glossy ibises, lapwings, Asian openbills, egrets and cormorants have arrived; photographs by Prothom Alo's Soyel Rana.

Bhepra beel covers about 50 bighas and is ringed by aman rice fields. When the water falls in the dry season, birds of many kinds arrive, and their calls fill the villages around it all day: Boro Pathar, Bil Kesh Pathar, Jointibari and Futkort. Prothom Alo photographer Soyel Rana's photo story from this Bogura wetland.

One frame shows glossy ibises flying over the beel; another catches egrets, lapwings and ibises together high in the sky, and a flock of lapwings crossing the water.

In another, Asian openbills, lapwings and ibises share the same patch. A cormorant perches on a bamboo pole while glossy ibises feed below it.

Birds also settle on the backs of cattle grazing at the water's edge: fields, wetland and livestock together make one feeding ground for these waterbirds.
