Poribesh Unnayan Poribar, a local environmental group in Bogura, rescued a sick black kite on 16 July from the bank of Satbil in Darihasraj village, Sonatala. The bird was treated under the group's care and later released.

Two young men of Darihasraj village, Ziaur Rahman and Sagor, told Poribesh Unnayan Poribar that a sick eagle was lying there. Acting on this, the group's president Imran H Mondol went to Satbil in the village at 4pm with journalist Sajedur Abedin Shanto, Zulfiqar Islam, Sajal Chandra and Sajjad, and they rescued the sick bird.

Imran H Mondol said: "We found the bird in a very poor state. We took it into our care and treated it on the advice of wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer Rathindra Kumar Biswas."

"The bird recovered after three days of treatment. During that time we fed it fish, chicken liver, beef and vet saline," he said.

Wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer Rathindra Kumar Biswas told Jago News by mobile phone: "Right after the bird was rescued, the group's president Imran called me and emailed me photos of it. I examined the photos and told them it was a black kite."

"Birds like this usually eat meat," he said. "As soon as it was rescued I told them to give it vet saline. After that I gave them various kinds of advice, and I kept checking on the bird all the time."

Once the bird had fully recovered, the group released it into the wild on 19 July on the advice of Rathindra Kumar Biswas.

Poribesh Unnayan Poribar works to protect wildlife and improve the environment, pays for students' education and carries out many other development activities.
