The student environmental organisation "Teer" has rescued an injured vulture in Shibganj, Bogura. The vulture was rescued from Bogilagari village in the upazila on Tuesday (6 February) afternoon.

Hossain Rahman, the organisation's general secretary, said: "Acting on a secret tip-off, we learned that some young men in Bogilagari were holding an injured vulture. The regional committee for the upazila's Bihar union went there and, after the young men were made aware of the wildlife protection law, they handed over the vulture, which weighs eight kilograms. The vulture was injured by electrocution."

He said that because the vulture was ill, it has been handed over to the Social Forestry Division in Bogura, and the authorities have arranged the necessary treatment before taking the next steps.

Matlubur Rahman, deputy conservator of forests of the Social Forestry Division in Bogura, said the vulture appears to be ill. It will be treated and nursed back to health, and a decision will be taken after that.
