A black-faced langur has been roaming Bogura, and no one can say where it came from. For a week it has been seen in Gokul, Baghopara, Thengamara, Upashahar, Nishindara and Shahpara in the town.

A former president of Team for Environment and Energy Research (TEER), an environmental organisation at Government Azizul Haque College in Bogura, said black-faced langurs in Bangladesh live in the Keshabpur and Monirampur areas of Jashore, and one could have strayed from a group there to the Bogura region. There are no langurs in the Bogura region, he said; the langurs being seen got off trucks carrying fruit or food imported from India. Small and medium-sized langurs have been seen in Gokul and Nishindara, probably both male and female.

According to the same account, they are about 30 inches long and at least 24 inches tall, with a tail longer than the body. They weigh about 10–12 kg, and their ears, faces and soles are jet black.

Dr SM Iqbal, associate professor of zoology at Government Azizul Haque College, said these black-faced langurs are seen in Jashore and may have come to this region after straying from their group. They are very harmless animals, he said.
