An elderly man named Kaiser Ali, 64, has died after being struck with a sharp weapon by assailants in Adamdighi, Bogura. Police recovered his body from the gate of the village mosque at noon on Thursday (27 June).

Kaiser Ali was the son of the late Garibullah of Antahar village in Chhatiangram union parishad of the upazila.

According to police and the family, Kaiser worked as a day labourer at various houses in the village. When the power went out at 12 midnight on Wednesday, he went out of the house, gathered mangoes and called to his daughter-in-law, Rajufa Begum. Rajufa told her father-in-law to keep the mangoes with him and went to sleep. Kaiser then left the house again to gather more mangoes. Late at night he was struck on the head with a sharp weapon by assailants and died from heavy bleeding.

Abdus Samad, imam of Antahar Dakshinpara Jame Mosque, said he went to the mosque to give the call to Fajr prayer because the muezzin was on leave. He then saw Kaiser's body lying in front of the gate on the south side of the mosque and told the worshippers who came to pray. On receiving the news, Omar Ali, senior assistant superintendent of police holding additional charge of the Adamdighi circle, visited the scene. Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for a post-mortem.

Former union parishad member Jahangir Alam and retired army member Ashikuzzaman Chhoton, of the same village, said that as far as they knew he had no enemies in the village. They suspect he was killed because he saw some wrongdoers at work during the night and angered them. They demanded that those involved in the killing be identified and quickly brought to justice.

Adamdighi police station inspector (investigation) Moyen Uddin said he died after being struck on the head with a sharp weapon. The body was recovered and sent for a post-mortem to the morgue of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. What kind of weapon was used, and who killed him and how, is under investigation. The family is preparing to file a murder case, he said.
