Teer, an environmental organisation of Government Azizul Haque College, has rescued 35 endangered sundhi turtles while they were being sold in Bogura. The turtles were rescued with the help of the Forest Department from the town's Tinmatha area at around 9am on Monday.

Members of Teer held two sellers: Rafiqul Islam and Gobinda Chandra Roy, both of Bogura. The two said they had brought the turtles from Noakhali to sell.

Arafat Rahman, a former president and adviser of Teer, confirmed the incident. Inspector Asim Mallik of the Wildlife Crime Control Unit, Teer's current president Rakibul Hasan, general secretary Rifat Hasan and organising secretary Hossain Rahman were present.

Arafat Rahman said the two were caught red-handed while selling the turtles in the Tinmatha area of the town. The 35 endangered sundhi turtles were recovered from two sacks they were carrying, and together they weighed 37 kg.

He said preparations are under way to file a case under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
