A schoolgirl named Tanjina Akter, 12, has died of a snakebite in Chattogram. It happened in Boalkhali early on Wednesday (2 November).

Tanjina was the daughter of the late Mohammad Ali of ward 1, West Shakpura, under Boalkhali police station. She was a class-five pupil at Shakpura Rashid Government Primary School.

Dr Ahiuddin Sumon, a doctor in the emergency department of the upazila health complex, said a child named Tanjina was declared dead at around 4am on Wednesday. Her relatives said she had been bitten by a snake.

Mozammel Haque, a member of the local Shakpura union parishad, said Tanjina was bitten by a snake while asleep on Tuesday night. When she began writhing from the venom, her relatives took her to hospital at dawn. A snakebite mark was found on the middle finger of her left hand.
