The office of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare in Kakrail, Dhaka, has been redesigned with trees and natural beauty. From the chief officer to ordinary staff, everyone draws energy and a pleasant working environment from it.
From abandoned space to garden
On both sides of the second floor of the nine-storey BMET building, extended spaces lay abandoned for a long time. About a year and a half ago, an initiative was taken to change them, decorating the office surroundings with farming and art, combining taste and artistic thought.
Now a variety of flowers, ornamental plants and crop plants have created a creative workplace.
A calmer, keener workforce
The chief officer says the aim was to bring peace to everyone working in or visiting the office, boost their motivation and inspire patriotism. A literature corner for reading and facilities for physical exercise have also been added, and officers say their work has gained momentum.
