A monkey has been roaming the villages of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur for the past month. It seems to have adapted to life among people. It harms no one, and local residents have become used to it.

On Sunday (June 13) morning the monkey was seen on the tin roof of the Birganj Awami League office, in the afternoon at a house in Sujalpur village, and before that at Balaka intersection.

It has reportedly been moving for a long time through different neighbourhoods and business premises in the municipal town. No one bothers it any more; instead, people offer it food when they see it, and children enjoy watching it.

At first people crowded to see the monkey, but now it has become normal to them. When they see it, they give it bread, bananas, rice, curry and fruit. After eating, the monkey jumps back up into the trees or onto roofs. It does not disturb anyone.

Social worker Sohel Nara said he had seen the monkey in various places and had fed it several times, but he had not seen the upazila livestock officer take any action over it.

Senior Birganj journalist Arman Ali said the monkey had been roaming Birganj town for about a month, people were feeding it, and it had adjusted to life among the town's residents.

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Mohibul Islam said he did not know of, and had not heard, any such news.
