A woman named Mousumi Akter Ratna, 30, has died of a snakebite after coming to visit her father's house in Birampur, Dinajpur.

The incident took place at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 9 July, in Jolapara village of Katla union in the upazila.

Mousumi Akter was the wife of Ratan Sarkar of the Madilahat Gangapur area of Phulbari upazila.

According to local sources, she came from her husband's home to visit her father's house in the afternoon. As soon as she stood at the door of the house, a snake bit her. She died before she could be taken to Birampur Upazila Health Complex.

Tahajul Islam, the doctor on duty at the Birampur health complex, said a woman bitten by a snake was brought to the hospital in the afternoon, but she died before first aid could be given.

Faima, acting chairman of the local Katla union, confirmed the incident.
